About Me
Welcome! My name is Heather. As a professional counsellor, I hold a Bachelor of Counselling and am a registered member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
PACFA is a national peak body for counsellors and psychotherapists within Australia; as such, they set the standards for training, and ethical practice. Therefore, as a professional counsellor, and a registered member of PACFA, I am not only trained/experienced in using a range of evidence-based counselling and psychotherapeutic approaches, I am also dedicated to maintaining the highest possible standard of professional practice, and care.
Those approaches which I more commonly apply - due to their diverse applicability and efficacy, are - cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and, solution focused brief therapy (SFBT).
However, at all times, I use a Trauma Informed, Strengths Based, Person Centred, approach. Therefore, with a broad range of knowledge, and experience, I am qualified to work with people with an equally broad range of issues, relating to - relationships, separation, divorce, coping with/understanding/managing disabilities, managing conflict, parenting/sibling rivalry, grief and loss, abuse, trauma, adolescence, low self-esteem, workplace difficulties, searching for direction, transitioning, and/or, depression, anxiety, and stress. Furthermore, I have a particular interest, and knowledge, in supporting family members of those whom are on the autism spectrum, and those whom are on the spectrum themselves. As such, I work with children, young people, and adults - as individuals, in couples, or, as families.
Regardless of who I am counselling, my genuinely non-judgmental and empathic approach stems from my insight into the complexities of, not only life, but, also, human nature itself. Therefore, I can support clients to gain greater awareness of themselves, develop methods for establishing healthier relationships with themselves, and others, manage and/or reduce stress and anxiety, and, generally, become more empowered in their everyday functioning, in and throughout their lives. ![]()
